Best Bets for Tuesday, July 21, 2026

Introduction

Tuesday's MLB card is one of the better midweek slates of the summer - 15 games, solid pitching matchups, and a handful of legitimate edges hiding underneath the public's radar. No UFC tonight, the PGA Tour's 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities does not start competitive rounds until Thursday, and there are no RAF events on the card. This is a baseball night, and it's a good one.

We went through the full board and zeroed in on three high-confidence plays and one live-monitor spot. Here's the full breakdown.

Pittsburgh Pirates (~+105) at New York Yankees (-125) | 7:05 PM ET | Yankee Stadium

The Play: Pittsburgh Pirates Moneyline

This is the bet of the night.

Braxton Ashcraft takes the mound for Pittsburgh at 9-3 with a 3.49 ERA - legitimately one of the best starts by a Pirates arm in years. He's been efficient, limits walks, and his pitch mix generates weak contact that plays well in any park. His counterpart tonight is Ryan Weathers for New York, sitting at 3-7 with a 4.15 ERA.

The Yankees are -125 on name recognition as much as anything else. New York sits at 54-44 overall but has gone just 23-22 at home - far from a dominant fortress at the Stadium. Pittsburgh is a genuine road team at 27-24 away. When you have the starting pitching edge on the road dog and public money is flowing to the favorite, that's a play.

Bet: Pittsburgh Pirates ML (~+105 - get it before it moves)
Risk factors: Yankees lineup can wake up at any time. July air in the Bronx carries.
Confidence: 7/10

Baltimore Orioles (+118) at Boston Red Sox (-143) | 7:10 PM ET | Fenway Park

The Play: Baltimore Orioles Moneyline

This is the contrarian value play of the card.

Payton Tolle starts for Boston at 5-6 with a 3.11 ERA - the Red Sox's most consistent arm this half. Shane Baz takes the ball for Baltimore at 4-9 with a 4.19 ERA. His record looks rough, but his secondary stuff sequences well against Boston's patient approach, and the Orioles defense has tightened behind him.

Here's the real number: analytics model (SportsGrid) gives Baltimore a 62% win probability tonight. If that's even close to accurate, +118 on the Orioles is substantial positive expected value. Fenway pricing tends to inflate early - the sharp money is on the road side.

Bet: Baltimore Orioles ML +118
Risk factors: Baz's 4-9 record has context, but he's capable of rough nights. Budget accordingly.
Confidence: 6/10

Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Yankees - UNDER 7.5 | 7:05 PM ET

The Play: UNDER 7.5 runs

Stacking this with the Pirates ML. Ashcraft's profile - ground ball heavy, strikeout capable, rarely gives up clusters - makes him a natural under driver. Weathers has shown the ability to work through innings without surrendering in bulk. Total is set at 7.5.

Yankees home game means public hammers overs. That's typically how you get a total that's a run too high.

Bet: Pirates/Yankees UNDER 7.5
Risk factors: July heat in the Bronx. One big inning and you're done.
Confidence: 7/10

San Diego Padres at Atlanta Braves | 7:15 PM ET | Truist Park

The Play: Monitor - Padres ML if priced +120 or better

Specific odds were not finalized at press time, but the situational angle is real. The Padres are one of the NLs stronger road teams and historically perform well in July. Atlanta at Truist is always dangerous but has had stretches of offensive inconsistency this month.

Check your book before first pitch. If San Diego is available at +120 or better, it's a live play. Don't chase if the line has already moved.

Bet: SD Padres ML - MONITOR (target +120 or better)
Confidence: 5/10 (conditional)

Lines fluctuate. Lock in Pirates and Orioles as early as possible. As always - bet within your means.
